the next batch of photos

Here are some more photos of the construction.  As you can see the house will not be sitting on the ground - it's raised slightly to allow for water etc.  The picture of the completed house (last photo) is our across the road neighbour Max (he used the same builder we're using).  He's Swiss and will be using this as his holdiay house during winter in Switerland.

footings done - slab next

The footings for the house have been done and this week they should be doing the slab.  Gary has sent through some photos of the footing getting done - not very exciting but shows work in progress.

An Update

Not much in this update but the little I have is exciting - because - they've started our house WOOHOO!!!  Finally!  After Gary being back in Thailand for 5 weeks, they have started moving forward.  Gary met with Holger, our project manager last week and they finally agreed on which builder to use.  Somjai is our preferred choice and has been right from the start but Gary wanted to keep him honest with his quote so we got 3 quotes.  He was given the ok to start last Thursday.   The block had to have another 300mm or so taken off the top and pushed to the slope to make the pad wide enough for the house.  Somjai has pegged out the house and now they will start laying the foundations.  He has the materials on site to go ahead.

Sorry, no photos at this stage.  I have to rely on Gary to take them (which he does) and then email them to me (which he's not so good at doing J).  I will put photos up as soon as I get some.  I will post more news as I get it.
have a fabulous day.

some photos

Here are some photos of the cleared block. Not too exciting but at least it's something to share. The top part of the block has been cleared - that's where the house will go.  They've pushed all the excess dirt to the sloped area as Gary wants to terrace that - hopefully with a escalator for the steep climb to the top :-)  No more progress on the house at this stage. Gary is meeting with the project manager to go over all the proposals and finally give the go ahead to the preferred builder so they can finally get started.  Cross fingers that it starts soon.

another small update

Just a small update today.  The block was cleared last week so all the trees and vegetation has been cleared away and the block is now bare.   The builder, Somjai, has all the plans and has told Gary the cost to build the house (which he was pleasently suprised with) and has indicated he can start immediately - I told him to go for it :-)  Unfortuntely, the cost didn't include the pool :-(   but hopefully that will still go in, cross fingers.  Might just have to wait until closer to completion to find out if we will get that as well.  If not, I'll be putting up a wading pool so I don't have to leave the house to go swimming.... not sure exactly how much swimming I will do in a wading pool but at least I can keep cool.  I don't have photos at the moment because Gary hasn't sent them to me yet - I'll get on his case tonight.

have a good day

House picture

Finally, I am able to share an impression of what our house will look like - this is the front view only.   The windows are actually full size though they don't look it - we will have high ceilings so it makes the picture look a bit funny.  When I'm able to share a plan I will.

latest update

Happy New Year to everyone.  Hope you had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I thought as I hadn't posted anything for a while that I would put the latest update up here.  But there's not really much to tell.  Our preferred builder, Somjai, has been on holidays and starts back at work on Monday so nothing has been happening while he's been on a break.  Most Thai's are Christians so they celebrate Christmas as well.  All our plans are completed - all 37 pages of them.  Somjai has them and is working out a price to build for us.  Gary wants to get 3 quotes but Somjai is the preferred builder.  He has built a lot of houses in Krabi for westerners and Gary has been and checked out a lot of them and they are good quality.

Gary is heading back to Krabi tomorrow (Saturday 5 Jan).  He's flying out of the Gold Coast tomorrow morning and has 24 hour stopover in Singapore and then arrives in Krabi around 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.  Things should start happening on site within the next 2 weeks (Gary hopes).

I was going to share a picture of the design of our house but I seem to be having trouble loading the picture so I'll try again later to share.

Have a great day.
